Pandemic Diseases & Prophecy
A pandemic (from Greek πᾶν pan "all" and δῆμος demos "people") is a disease epidemic that has spread across a large region, for instance multiple continents, or worldwide. A widespread endemic disease with a stable number of infected people is not a pandemic. Further, flu pandemics generally exclude recurrences of seasonal flu.
Throughout history, there have been a number of pandemics of diseases such as smallpox and tuberculosis. One of the most devastating pandemics was the Black Death (also known as The Plague), which killed an estimated 75–200 million people in the 14th century. Other notable pandemics include the 1918 influenza pandemic (Spanish flu) and the 2009 flu pandemic (H1N1). Current pandemics include HIV/AIDS and the 2019 coronavirus disease, which was declared a pandemic on 11 March 2020 by the World Health Organization (WHO).[1][2]
About 186 nations are fighting the disease as of June 2020. It is the first disease that has shut down businesses worldwide. The very economy of the whole world was at stake. But what does this have to do with Biblical prophecy?
What does this pandemic have to do with Prophecy?
Is the 2019-20 coronavirus the first of the worldwide plagues that will inflict the world in the end time? As of today (April 2020) this is uncertain. It hasn’t killed millions of people, as far as we know. The ratio of deaths to those affected is not nearly as bad as the Black Death plague, as far as we know. The end time prophecies predict a massive number of deaths from plagues, famines, earthquakes and wars. (see our Prophecy Papers for more and better details) If we are near to the end time predicted in the Bible, then the coronavirus may be the first of the end time plagues. We will watch and see how this develops. No one at this time can be sure. We watch; we wait. When the 1260th day comes we will be sure. (see our Prophecy Papers)
